Why Consider Dental Implants?

When you lose a tooth, replacing it is essential to maintaining your oral health. Dental implants are one of the most reliable and durable ways to replace a missing tooth, providing a foundation that mimics the natural structure of a tooth. Unlike dentures or bridges, dental implants fuse directly with your jawbone, allowing them to feel and function like your natural teeth. They also prevent bone loss, preserving the shape and strength of your jaw over time.

Unlike traditional dentures, which need replacement every so often – and more frequently than you’d like – dental implants can last a lifetime if you care for them well.

The Benefits of Dental Implants

  1. Comfort & Functionality: Dental implants look, feel, and work exactly like the teeth you were born with. This completely restores your mouth’s full range of functions, like speaking, eating, and smiling.

  2. Natural Appearance: Your implants will match your other teeth perfectly, making your smile natural and attractive.

  3. Preservation of Jawbone Health: Because dental implants are made from biocompatible materials, they fuse with the jawbone. This holds bone loss at bay and helps to maintain your overall facial and jawline structure.

The Dental Implant Process

1. Initial Placement

Once you decide that dental implants are for you, your treatment will begin with a minor surgical procedure. Dr. McKinney will make a small incision in your gum where the titanium implant will integrate with your jawbone. The area is then sutured, and healing begins.

2. Healing & Osseointegration

Following the surgery, your implant will need time to bond with the jawbone. This is called “osseointegration.” This crucial step typically takes 3-6 months, ensuring that the implant integrates with your mouth permanently. We’ll schedule follow-up visits during this time to monitor your progress and ensure proper healing.

3. Crown Completion

After the implant has fully integrated with your jaw, a custom-made crown will be attached to the top of the implant. This crown will match the size, color, and shape of the teeth around it, restoring your smile fully.
